Since several years we read about the internet 2.0 regarding the new social networks as Facebook and Youtube and the new ways to cooperate and collaborate on the net. But many people, intensive user of the new technology wonder which will be the next step also to be updated and to be able to plan the new investments on technology for themselves, for their families, for their assets or for their companies.

Let’s try, then, in this paper to define what has been internet 1.0, which is the identity of all the internet 2.0 applications and what is  and when we should be expecting internet 3.0.

Internet 1.0 is made especially by bits, files and links that represent things and people: the typical example is the web page or the email with its attachments. Google itself is mainly a “network” representations of relations between files of “thing and/or people”.

Internet 2.0, instead, is made by people the are online and interact  directly with their “digital presence”  in a dialectic way with their “real presence” that get more value from the other “presence” in a bidirectional way: for example let’s think to Facebook or to Foursquare. New “real” relationship start in the “digital world web 2.0” as in Facebook, other old and “classic” relationship are renewed and became active thanks to the web 2.0: in fact, Facebook started exactly to allow to everyone to reconnect with his old friends of the university college.

Internet 3.0, instead, is made of “object online” with their IP that interact in real time directly with other “objects” or people” and have their memory. All the “relevant objects” get a digital “soul” with its cleverness and ability of distribute computing thanks to the big bandwidth of the wireless network and the very high integration and the new chips that can be smaller than a tip of a match.

These three phases had their dynamics in their generative phases. Internet 1.0 and the web came from the world of the discrete simulation and thus from the detailed representation of the physical phenomena as an more powerful alternative to the analytical models based on the differential calculus of the end of the 1800. Internet 1.0 created a dualism form the “real level” of the phenomena and the “representative level”  that need continue updating to have it consistent with the other “real level”.

In the “real level” one application of the “representative level” was able to break in directly solving the dualism: the mobile and cellular application. It has been an incredible success and now we have more then a billion cellular in the world: the voice is “represented digitally” but is heard as “real” in “real time” solving the dualism of the two levels.

On the other side in the “digital level” the identity of the “real level” was able to break in directly for the communications between the people with the email and/or the nickname of the chat. Checking the email is still one of action most done all over the world in the connected world.

On the cellular the people talk as they are used to do in the real world in any place and time but also at a great distance thanks to the digital “object” called cellular and the network associated.

The cellular is now a real “intimate appendix” of the people that can be identified from several point of view. In the email and/or chat the people, connected in the digital world, find their real  identity and communicate with other in a digital and complex way (with attachments, cc, bcc, etc…)

The above two applications (mobile and email) has created the possibilities of the synthesis of the web 2.0.

In fact, in the internet 2.0, thanks to the technology innovation that allow every 18 month a double bandwidth at the same cost (Gilder law), the people can be on the net “directly” exchanging email, chatting, speaking and/or seeing with skype or voip, interact with other people in every moment thanks to the new smartphones.

Email, nickname and cellular number start to be unified in a only one real digital identity online

From the other side, the direct presence of the people is thank you to a particular “object” that is the cellular phone that by itself is distinct and separate form the real person. In this way start a new dualism between the people and the objects (in primis the cellular) that allow the people to be online in a complete and digital way.

The synthesis of this dualism has been tried at the beginning from the architecture of the cellular itself and his capacity to became a sort of “computer” with a full ability to be personalized and configured with the preference and the identity of the person “represented” live online. The cellular from a “piece of hardware” has became a “piece of software” on the net accessed anywhere by a simple and powerful mobile terminal.

I can connect my Facebook and twitter profile, appear happy or sad to my friends with the “presence information”.

Another symmetrical synthesis has been the “avatar” or the software “agents” that can take the place of the people in the digital world and simulate their behaviours with several degree of connection with the real person.

In such a way smarthphones and avatars represent the new solutions of the classical “answering machine” of the fixed phone lines and represent the “new identity” of the people.

The synthesis of this two elements cellular-pc and avatar or software agent with its IP is represented from the internet 3.0 that has as objective to associate at every “relevant object for our goals” one digital soul for the computing and communication and a specific identity or IP number with his behaviour profile as an software agent.

The number of the possible application is unlimited: we have the one on info mobility and the one on home automation.

We can have street that “speak” with the cars, cars that speak with others car, car that “speak” with the drivers or that ask to the other “drivers” close by information about traffic (for example to the one coming from the opposite direction), parking place that “speak” to the cars and so on.

For the house we can have appliances that optimize the energy or create the right “contest”(light, sound, smell…) for the desire and emotions of the guests or the owner of the house.

The houses can “speak” with the cars where are the owner coming back from the office or the opposite.

The boat can communicates with the cost or the ports or with the closest boats to have more social life in the same bay.

Of course we can have a lot of industrial  applications for clever factory and to optimize the distribution of the products.

We could go on with several other examples.

There is space for a new company as Google or Facebook dedicated to this new dimension of the internet 3.0 and this company, if participated from the venture capital funds can born anywhere also outside the “American geographical context”. Goole has a big “Russian” soul from one of the founder that found in the US the right “background”: the mathematical ability were critical and the idea to thing the identity of the internet as a “network” of files with links was successful. Facebook, instead, has been founded on the idea to give value to the “social networks” that start in the university collages .

For the new company of the internet 3.0 that should do a synthesis of the two previous phases will be important the analytical ability and in the same time the relational one related to the world of the objects and the preferences of the people regarding their self.

For the economy of the space of this article we cannot continue to describe in more detail as the new company should be but we can say that the timing can be faster of Facebook that was faster of Google itself.

This two companies will not be just at the window but probably their workers could migrate to the new company that could have their headquarters “online” and not only in a specific geographic place. New states and new governments could create the right “context” to allow this new company grow in alternative to the silicon valley.

Just for the sake of the people that would like to know what is after the internet 3.0 we can say that this phase (the 3.0) will create a dualism from the network of the objects and the network of the “people” and so from on side we will have the object in the person (human prosthesis in the body) and from the other side we will have similar-biological systems in the things itself. There will be work for the bioengineering. But this phase 4.0 will not be real before the 2020 and in the meantime we invite any reader to bet in which form, where and when the new BIG company  of the internet of the object will born.
